Jason:
Charles, we are honored to have an extremely important guest with us today. We are joined by the legendary Sy Hersh. Mr. Hersh, welcome to the show.
00:00:19:27 - 00:00:26:17
Seymour:
Legendary means I'm half dead, but that's okay. I'll live with it. It's better than the terrible.
00:00:26:17 - 00:00:29:00
Jason:
But fully alive and still making news.
00:00:29:06 - 00:00:37:27
Charles:
So if we may say, you have a lot of options to publish stories and books, why did you decide to get into this latest venture with Substack?
00:00:39:05 - 00:00:58:27
Seymour:
Well, because the truth is that the newspaper business has changed so much in the last decade. And when I was a kid, I did the my-lai story as a freelancer, and I couldn't sell it. Oh, I'm so sorry. I got to turn my phone off. Sure. I feel disconnected. It just goes like crazy. And so we can start again.
00:00:59:05 - 00:01:04:19
Seymour:
I'm going to turn everything off. I've got a cell phone, too. I'm going to shut down. Dammit, I forgot. So it's okay.
00:01:04:19 - 00:01:06:00
Jason:
We can keep going. Don't worry about it.
00:01:06:00 - 00:01:33:00
Seymour:
But, you know. But anyway, so the problem is that that business that I was in in the seventies and eighties, particularly at the New York Times, doesn't exist anymore. So I never considered. I've been since covered I've actually been doing a long, a long term historical project that was a lot of fun about containment and how how we missed the boat totally was the wrong We went the wrong way in so many ways after World War Two.
